Destination Advice

Hi,

We are spending some time in Sardinia and have a few days spare en route from Alghero to Cagliari.

Can anyone advise on a nice place between the two for which to spend 3/4 nights?

We will be travelling by public transport between the two so we need it to be easily accessible by train/bus.

All tips appreciated!

Thanks!

Two weeks in sicily by public transport?

Hi! I'm planning on doing a long holiday in Italy from the end of September until November. I will be doing most of my transport via public transport, but biking/hiking or renting a car every now and then might be an option too.

What I'm currently thinking about:

- Enter sicily by train, hop off on the east coast. Visit Taormina, Catania, Siracusa, and possibly Ragusa as main sites. 5 days?

- Take the ferry from either Pozzallo or Augusta to Malta

- Spend about a week on Malta

- Take the ferry back, see (possibly Ragusa here) Valle dei Templi, and the north and west of sicily. About 10 days?

- Take the ferry from Palermo to Cagliari

- Spend about two weeks on Sardinia (not sure what places yet)

- take the ferry from Porto Torres to Barcelona

Is this a feasibily itinerary? The suggested staying times for these places seem to be all over the place (e.g. 5 days enough for Sicily, two weeks in Malta) so I'm wondering if I'm taking it easy enough or if I could include Amalfi for example. Is two weeks in Sicily enough if I go by public transport? I want to see the main sites and take some relaxed days off too. I don't need to spend days in every town exploring every alley.

I plan on staying in hostels and cheap hotel rooms mostly. I can also bring camping gear but I'm not entirely sure if it's worth it as I think a lot of campings will already be closed in October. I don't particularly have a set budget but I prefer to spend my cash on good food and perhaps some guides. I don't have a need for luxury hotels or driving a car everywhere.

Travelling Sardinia with a 4 year old

Hello all, I'm spending about 5 days in Sardinia with my daughter with the first 2 days in San Teodoro and 3 days in Cagliari. I don't plan to rent a car but just rent a bicycle to get around the beaches in San Teodoro and Villasimius . Is it easy to get around by bike?

December Christmas Markets and Krampus around Merano

I am a solo traveler and I hope to explore the Christmas markets around Merano for 3 nights (6 December to 9 December 2021). I will not have a car so I am relying on public transport.

I hope to visit the following places:

TIROLER SCHLOSSADVENT, Dorf Tirol/Tirolo on 8 December (Bank Holiday)

The Merano Chistmas Market

A Christmas Forest at FORST Brewery

Alpenadvent Sarntal

Castel Rametz

Is this realistic? Where should I find lodging to easily reach these places? Perhaps I can arrive in Algund on December 6? From Algund, can I easily get to Merano on December 7? Dorf Tirol on December 8?

Should I stay in one place for all 3 nights or move to different locations? Would it be easier to be based in Merano? If so, what location is most convenient for public transport?

Thanks for your advice and recommendations!

Rapid Antigen Test for return to Germany

Tomorrow I will fly to Sardinia, Alghero and I wanted to ask beforehand if there is a possibility to da a rapid antigentest in Alghero or somewhere else on the island like Cagliari ( since I will be visiting a few cities by car anyway) for free or at least at a cheap price.

Would appreciate any recommendations :)

Puglia to Calabria- public transport

10-12 days in Northern Italy

I will be arriving into Nice in the middle of September. I have a month and will spend 10-12 days in Northern Italy and the rest in France.

My plans are to go to Verona first and then the Dolomites as I think the weather should be better at the end of Sept. Thinking 1/2 nights in Verona, then 4 nights in the Dolomite area-suggestions welcome. Maybe an airbnb and do day hikes? We will have a car.

Then make our way back to Nice stopping in the Piedmont area-again suggestions of a location not in a busy town to make day trips? Maybe also a couple of days in Turin?

Our interests are hiking, history, food and wine.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Has anyone stayed at an RCI timeshare property?

My husband and I are traveling to Sardinia for the first time in July 2022. We only have a few days to spend on Sardinia before moving on to the next leg of our trip. We have the option of staying at an RCI timeshare property. Was wondering if anyone has stayed at an RCI property on Sardinia and what your experience has been. We would also like to be near the sea as much of our time will be spent at the beach. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Overnight sleeper trains from Milan to Paris

First off- this may be a bit of a 'bouncing around' post. Sorry! Trying to keep it clear...

I'm planning a trip for Spring 2022 Italy and France. So far, I have booked:

A) Flight into Rome and out of Paris

B) 3 nights in Rome and the following 4 nights in Cinque Terre (Riomaggiore).

This leaves 8 nights before my flight home.

I planned to get from Rome to Riomaggiore by train, via Florence, but this isn't booked yet.

I had thought after check out in the CT that I would go to Milan on an early bus or train, spend the day, and take a night/sleeper train from Milan to Paris, which I would then make my base, and do day trips here and there. I have been to Paris before, as well as Marseille and Nice. LOVE all three - want to see more of France, but also want to have a home base, to feel less nomadic.

I've found plenty of advice to take the Thello train for this. However, I also saw somewhere credible (of course...I can't find it again to quote here... it was on the Thello or Eurail website or something like that...), it looks like the Thello Paris-Milan/Venice is discontinued. Is this true? Are there any other sleeper train options Milan to Paris? I would really like to be able to do a few hours/day in Milan, but am completely open minded.

As a follow up question - I had thought it may be worth it to get the Eurail global 10 day pass. I believe it's good for 10 random days within a one or two month time period. Is this a better plan, to get me to my base camps, and use for the day trips from Paris, allowing me to do them solo rather than booking viator, or some such tour company?

Appreciate all friendly pieces of advice and responses!

Transport to the Aeolian Islands from Catania

Hi

I'm starting to plan a trip to Sicily and the Aeolian islands in early September (covid permitting of course) and I'd be grateful for some advice.

We're planning to fly into Catania Airport on an early morning flight from London, then head straight to Milazzo port to catch a ferry to Lipari and then stay as follows:

4 nights Lipari

3 nights Panerea

2 nights Taormina

Just wondering what's the best way to travel when we get to Catania? We need to get from the airport to Milazzo Port and then from Milazzo to Taormina, and finally from Taormina back to Catania airport to catch our mid-morning flight back home. Would we be best to hire a car for the whole duration and pay to park it for a week at Milazzo while we're in the Aeolian islands, or can we do everything easily by bus/public transport? And would we be missing out by not having a car to explore the area around Taormina?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Vernazza to Menaggio Transport

Hello,

I will be staying for two days in Cinque Terre in Vernazza and then leaving to Lake Como to stay in Menaggio. I'm having some difficulty figuring out transport. I'd ideally like to take the quickest route available via train. Can someone please provide some information regarding or where I would be able to get some infomation?

Thanks.
