Summer 2021

Hi all,

What are your thoughts of the likelihood of travelling to Sorrento from the UK this Summer? Will the next review of restrictions come up anytime soon where we will have more clarity?

Returning to Alghero this summer

Hi all

I wondered if anyone has gone or is planning to go to Alghero, Sardinia this summer? I know my favoured hotel, Hotel Calabona is remaining closed until Dec 2021. But I wondered if anything else has changed as a result of the pandemic? Thank you very much for your answers

ATV Summer 2021 timetables

ATV are obviously expecting things to get back to normal, and from today are operating a 'normal' summer timetable. You can download the timetables and a handy map of the routes from he

One main change is that the 164 Garda/Verona bus will no longer travel via the airport, instead there is a new bus service 482 running hourly between the airport and Peschiera, Lazise, Bardolino and Garda.

The Venice service will only run on Tuesdays and Thursdays and the Opera bus service will also resume.

How was travel between Italy and Switzerland this summer?

Hello. We are planning our trip next summer, which will be based in Italy since our daughter already has a school trip scheduled there.

We're planning to spend about 12 days in Italy, ending in Venice. We have 5-6 more days to play with, and were debating between going to Switzerland for the first time, or going to Milan/Lake Cuomo (also for the first time).

I'm hesitating to add the Switzerland portion onto our trip, out of concerns that it might complicate our travel next summer for Covid-related reasons. I'm worried about things like a difference in entry requirements, extra testing requirements, etc. We are all four fully vaccinated, but who knows what the rules will be concerning that by June 2022?

Since nobody has a crystal ball, I was hoping someone could at least talk about how easy it was to travel between Italy and Switzerland this summer (for vaccinated Americans, if that is relevant).

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give. :)

Current Covid 19 Restrictions in Sorrento

Hi can anyone who is or has recently been in Sorrento tell if mask wearing outside walking is strictly enforced?

Chianti and Va d'Orcia

Hello,

I plan to visit Tuscany this summer. I would like to know where to drive in Chianti and in Val d'Orcia to see the most sceenic landscape. Which towns there should I visit?

Thank you.

Venice Tourist Tax

An article in La Repubblica a few days ago says that starting in 2022 Venice will impose a tourist tax. I know this has been discussed for several years so it's not terribly surprising, what got me was the description of tourist behavior this summer that finally kicked officials into action.

Jumping off bridges into the canal? Ignoring social distancing, acting as if Covid never happened. I know we've all been cooped up and need to blow off some steam, but really ...

Amalfi Coast - Need Help

I am planning a trip for next May. Flying into Naples and staying 3 days, ferry to Capri for 2-3 days, Positano and/or Amalfi for 2-3 days then to Sorrento for 2 days. Is this a good itinerary or should I do the opposite of going to Sorrento first and Capri last. Will not be renting a car but doing ferriesor private drivers. I appreciate any thoughts or tips! Thanks so much

Nature Reserves in Sicily

I have been to Vendicari (twice) and Lo Zingaro and absolutely loved both. To walk through trails with not a million people around & the sea right by one's side is pure bliss.

I'd love to return to at least one this summer, Vendicari by preference, but hotels are not cheap closeby (I won't have a car). Is Baglio Sicliamo hotel too far (if part was done by bicycle)? I've had dinner there & that and Corte del Sole (now much more expensive than 2 years back) would be my ideal places to stay. Any thoughts or ideas?

Lo Zingaro is wonderful if more crowded. Scopello is lovely but more small / less space.

Any other thoughts on other reserves / nature spots in Sicily (by the sea) with nice walks, not crowded & with nice places to stay (if they do dinner like Baglio Siciliamo & Corte del Sole that would be ideal). I'm not a huge fan of the beaches with lots of people (Marina di Noto for ex). Is Cava grande cassibile worth a look?

Thanks in advance,

Andrew

5 days in Amalfi Coast - itinerary, arrival, where to stay

We are 2 families - one : 2 adults and 2 children (18,21) and other family: 2 adults with a six year old child who shall be going overland from Sicily to Amalfi Coast in early July 2021. We were considering driving to Messina from Raguza area, take the ferry and drive to Maratea and stop overnight. The next day we shall drive to Sorrento and stay there for a few days. This was our draft itinerary so far.:

DAY 1 :

Drive to Messina - Ferry to Villa San Giovanni, Drive to Maratea and stay Maratea

DAY 2 :

Drive and stop to visit Salerno, then Vietri sul mare, Cetara and finally Sorrento and

stay at Sorrento (accommodation for next few days)

DAY 3 :

Drive and stop to visit Positano and then Praiano and see town centres. Return Sorrento

DAY 4 :

Drive and stop to visit Ravello and Amalfi and see town centres. Return Sorrento

DAY 5 :

Visit Sorrento Centre and Drive to Napoli or Salerno to catch Ferry to Palermo or Messina in the evening- overnight stay on the ferry

DAY 6 :

Arrive Palermo or Messina - depending on the ferry trip and availability. Spend a day in Sicily and end of trip.

Any suggestions please re entire itinerary. Not sure whether we should stop in Maratea or somewhere close - not to have a long way driving and whether to base ourselves at Sorrento. We are also undecided whether to catch the Ferry To Palermo or to Messina?

Please advise

Sardinia or Croatia

Hi everyone

We are a couple planning a summer trip and struggling to decide between Sardinia and Croatia. We are looking for a quiet beach vacation, that is not too crowded with tourists, and has hiking options. I would love to hear your opinion.

Thanks:)
