Activities away from the sea

What are some things to do or interesting activities that don’t involve the beach and seaside towns? Looking for family/kid friendly activities - farm visits, sculpture gardens, monuments or museums (outside Genoa), wineries, anything else really.

Appreciate suggestions

Where to stay, family with toddler

We are planning a one-week trip to Sardinia with our 2.5 year old daughter late August. Looking for a small hotel or serviced villa/apartment:

- with pvt beach or at walking distance to a beautiful beach

- with a pool ideally

- not too crowded with tourists

- in a cozy city/village offering easy walks and hikes (not too hilly) and proximity to restaurants

- toddler-friendly activities close-by

Any recommendations on the area /place to stay?

One-week stay with small kid

We are planning a one-week trip to Sardinia with our 2.5 year old daughter late August. Looking for a small hotel or serviced villa/apartment (even a farm stay):

- at walking distance to a beautiful beach with shallow waters

- with a pool / playground ideally

- not looking for big all-inclusive resorts

- in/close to a cozy village or town offering easy walks and proximity to restaurants

- toddler-friendly activities close-by

Any recommendations on the area /place to stay? I'm looking at Costa Rei, Orosei, etc. but really difficult to pick one!

Tuscan wineries open in January?

I'm looking for recommendations of the best tourist-friendly wineries to visit. I'm sure there are many wineries but merely looking for a farm or two where I can taste some classic varietals and get a sense of the Italian wine industry. Will be visiting during the first 2 weeks of January so many may be closed?

5 days in Dolomites, based in Ortisei

Hello!

My active, 12 year-old son & I are going to The Dolomites for 5 nights at the beginning of July. We'll be based on Ortisei & I wondered if someone might share top activities to do & great nearby towns to see. We're bringing our bikes & we'd love some easy to medium-difficulty hikes. I don't know much about the gondolas or via ferrata & our hotel hasn't given us any suggestions beyond the local pool.

Also, we have 1 extra day/night before we drive to Milan. Can anyone suggest a great town to visit on the drive down?

Val Gardena Active Program

Hi all,

I'll be heading to the Dolomites shortly for a solo trip and I was wondering if people had used the partner Active Program in the Val Gardena and, if so, what did you think of it? Also were there other solo travelers or is it more geared towards family or older generation travelers?

Just curious as to impressions and yeah thoughts on the activities and guides.

Thanks for your help.

Itinerary Advice

Hello Friendly Travelers!

We will be in Florene from September 15th - September 19th. Although we are staying in Florence, we are allocating 1 full day for more "tourist" sites. We have been to Florence previously and saw the Uffizi (although somewhat quickly), Accademia, and climbed to the top of the Duomo. This time around we are going with a couple friend of ours who have not been to Florence, but also open to whatever (one is more into museums than the other). That all being said...

Initially I was trying to decide with whether to go back to the Uffizi or to do the Palace Pitti and the Boboli Gardens. I ultimately decided on the Palace and the Boboli because I have not yet seen it and our friends our open. 1. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

.2. I have now realized that the gardens open at 8:15 AM but the Palace does not open until 1:30 PM (I believe). As I really want to make the most of our day, I am wondering, 1. How long does one need at the gardens? and 2. Could we potentially do the gardens in the morning, walk over and do the duomo and grab lunch and then walk back to do the Palace around 2? I know it is kind of non-sensical to walk back and forth, but it really is not that far and we are into the additional "exercise." Again, thoughts on this would be very helpful.

3 days in Amalfi coast: Ideas on things to do

I realize 3 days is way too little, what is the best option to plan our itinerary.

Family enjoys beach, strolling around, sight-seeing, hiking and FOOD. No museums.

What should be the mode of transportation?

Where should we stay?

Any local food places you can recommended?

Thanks in advance.

lunch at a vineyard or farm/agriturismo?

My friend and I are doing a driving tour around Tuscany/Ubria for about 10 days (now). We'd love to arrange a few lunches at a vineyard, farm or similar place....preferably fairly casual rather than a posh restaurant at a winery, possibly with other guests or family members. We will be based for a few days each in a village near Montecatini, Sienna, Vitterbo and Asissi.

We'd love any suggestions.

Olbia hotels with airport/beach shuttle?

Are there any Olbia hotels with complimentary (or reasonably-priced) airport and/or beach shuttles presently operating? Because of a flight cancellation, we now have to arrive a day earlier, and will have to return to the airport to pick up for our previously-reserved rental car. Hoping to find a hotel on or near a beach with a shuttle to return to the airport so that we won't have to incur these unforeseen expenses (can't amend our current car rental reservation to add a day as that would involve cancelling and starting over, and cars are pricing for more than double the rate we are paying already for 22 days). Thanks for any suggestions!!
