Is traffic this July still as bad as most?

I know Italy just recently opened up, has traffic congestion for this year already picked up to the nightmarish levels of July in the past?

Trains from Rome to Syracuse in July 2021

Hi guys,

I am thinking whether it is worth trying visiting Syracuse this July or leave it for next year (2022).

I would fly from Toronto, Canada to Rome and then take a train to Syracuse.

Would you be helpful with a few questions?

1) Would Sicily or Syracuse allow for vaccinated foreign tourists visits starting in July?

2) I checked train schedule from Rome Termini to Syracuse (italiarail), and there are no connections at the beginning of July (10-12), while there are available trains to book in August.

Are there any restrictions for train transportation in July vs August?

3) Would you expect that crowds are less this year, or it is business as usual?

Thanks.

Itinerary of 8 days in Sicily

My husband and I plan to spend a few days in Sicily next month. We will arrive Catania 13 July. We prefer to finish the whole trip via public transport as parking seems to be difficult in some towns. Our itinerary is as below.

14-16 July Catania to Taormina (we will join a day trip to Etna on 15th)

16-17 July Taormina to Agrigento by bus (SAIS bus service but I think we will have to transfer in Catania?)

17-19 July Agrigento to Scopello. This is a problem as I can't find any info about taking public transport between Agrigento and Scopello? Should I cut Scopello out of this trip and leave more time to Agrigento and Palermo?

19-20 July Scopello-Palermo

Any ideas about this itinerary? The biggest problem is the travel between Agrigento and Scopello. Suggestions are welcome please!

Traffic Tickets from Italy - a Scam?

HI there

I spent a week in Italy in Bologna, Verona and Pisa in July 2016. In January 2017, I have received a whopping 7 tickets on the mail (I live in the US) from the different municipalities. They all are asking for payments for strange infractions that I don't even understand. I have requested information/prrof from the website they provided on the notices and no answer. All they responded is PAY. They also immediately increase penalties if you don't send the money withn 5 days. The total amount is over $1000 if you add the international wire transfers. To me this seems a total scam. I keep questioning myself about validating legal scam. Also they don't accept credit cards and only wire transfers which are expensive. I wanted to get your opinion. in the US, you have a process by which you can schedule a hearing and dispute this if needed. Here, they give you 5 days to pay and when I requested proof, no answer. I am reluctant to be scammed. What would happen if I don't pay? Will this be at one point, reported on credit collection agencies if you don't pay? Spending $1000+ on tickets that you don't even know what they are for, seems absolutely ridiculous. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

David

What to do around Rome?

My parents and I will be flying into Rome on July 28 and staying there until the evening of July 30 (planning to drive down to Naples on the 30th). However, my mother has already visited Rome and says one day should be enough for sightseeing, also considering the hot July weather and crowds on tourists. We would like to spend the 30th visiting little towns around Rome and escaping the city bustle. Any towns/places we should include on our itinerary? We were planning to visit Florence but we feel like we would like to escape the touristy sights and cities for a day. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Villa rental holiday in Italy

Looking for recommendations to hire a villa for 10 persons in Italy next June/July for 9 nights. Preferably within walking distance to town and coast or lake. TIA

Anyone been/planning a holiday to Sardinia from UK?

We’ve got one booked for first week of July in the North near Santa Theresa. Looks like Sardinia will still be on the UK’s amber list by then. Can’t decide whether to go anyway and pay for all the covid tests or to abandon this year. Any thoughts? Anyone been from the UK recently and if so what was your experience?

Road tripping to northern italy

Hello , good day everyone!

I’m non-EU citizen , vaccinated , planning to make a road trip from Germany to northern italy around 28 of july

what are the restrictions do i need to know about before making reservations?

Has anyone traveled with a passport expiring soon recently?

My (American) passport expires January 11, and I have a trip to Italy booked for July 15th-29th. Most things I see online (EU, Schengen, USDOT, and IATA websites) say that the passport needs to be valid for at least 3 months after departure, but there are some sites (USDOT again) that say 6 months, which I will not cover. My airline, after some confusion over email, said they will let me board the plane, but I'm still nervous as passport renewal times are terrible right now and unrealistic by the time I fly.

I know not a lot of Americans have entered Italy lately (hopefully that will soon change!), but if anyone has had any close calls or similar experiences I would love to know! Thank you

Driving to Italy from Denmark

Hi,

My wife and I are planning to drive to Italy this summer. We will leave in late July and we will be staying for 3 to 4 days in Germany on the way.

So this means that the Covid test we get in Denmark before we leave will be more than 48 hours old when we reach Italy.

Therefore I am thinking that the easiest thing to do is get a Covid quick test in Germany so it is valid before we enter Italy. But I can't find much information about how easy it is to take a test in Germany and if you would be able to get it close to the autobahn?

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks in advance

1 day in Rome - please help!

Thank you for your advice on my previous post. We have changed our travel plans a little bit and plan to spend 1 full day in Rome before heading down south and would love advice on how to perfect our first time in Rome. We will be arriving at Fiumicino at 5pm on July 28 and will get our rental car at the airport. We will be then driving to Rome and staying at a hotel about a minute away from the Colosseum and plan to leave the car at an overnight car park. Unfortunately, Colosseum will be fully closed on July 29, so we plan to visit on July 30 before leaving, hopefully. Here is what I have planned so far for the day of July 29 (hopefully everything is within a walking distance)

-Starting off our walk from our hotel near the Colosseum to the Piazza Venezia

-Trevi Fountain

-Pantheon, Piazza Navona

-Spanish Steps

-Castel Sant’Angelo

- Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel

-St. Peter’s Basilica

I have a few things we need advice on:

1) What is the best way to get around Rome, should we stick to walking? Should driving around with our rental car be avoided at all costs?

2) Please suggest any restaurants or cafes that you have beloved on Rome trips that we must absolutely visit.

3) Any other tips or places we should include on our itinerary.

We plan to leave Rome in the morning of July 30.

I am a bit lost to what we should do as my parents are not avid walkers but it is very difficult to decide what to do in the limited time we have there. Any advice would be appreciated.
