Taking a car

We are currently on a road trip through Italy with our own car. Interested in going to the Aeolian and possibly Egadi islands.

What are the restrictions for taking your own car to these islands? I understand some islands don't accept cars. We are primarily interested in Vulcano, Lipari, and Salina, but also possibly Filicudi and Favignana. We have already been to Panarea and Stromboli in previous years.

Is there some website where you can see what rules exist for which island?

Internet speed in Aeolian Islands

Hi,

Slightly strange question, but we are looking to work remotely from the Aeolian Islands in September but are very reliant on good internet to support video calls. I appreciate all internet will be dependent on the hotel / apartment we are staying in, but do you know if the internet connection generally on Lipari and Salina are reliable and fast?

Thanks,

Suzi

Transport to the Aeolian Islands from Catania

Hi

I'm starting to plan a trip to Sicily and the Aeolian islands in early September (covid permitting of course) and I'd be grateful for some advice.

We're planning to fly into Catania Airport on an early morning flight from London, then head straight to Milazzo port to catch a ferry to Lipari and then stay as follows:

4 nights Lipari

3 nights Panerea

2 nights Taormina

Just wondering what's the best way to travel when we get to Catania? We need to get from the airport to Milazzo Port and then from Milazzo to Taormina, and finally from Taormina back to Catania airport to catch our mid-morning flight back home. Would we be best to hire a car for the whole duration and pay to park it for a week at Milazzo while we're in the Aeolian islands, or can we do everything easily by bus/public transport? And would we be missing out by not having a car to explore the area around Taormina?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Ferry to Lipari and Volcano islands

Planning on a day trip to Lipari and Volcano islands. Staying in Taormina. Have a car and thinking of getting a ferry in Messina. Suggestions? Should I reserve tickets in advance? Issues with parking? Is there a better way to get there ? Milazzo? Thank you

Sicily & the yellow zone - the reality?

Hi,

My wife and I are due to travel to Sicily from the UK for a 2 week trip, last week of September/first week of October. This would be our first visit and we planned to rent a car and tour some of the island staying in a few different places - Palermo, Cefalu, Aelion islands, Taormina, Syracuse.

Now that the yellow zone restrictions have been reintroduced, we were hoping for some first hand experiences as to what impact this might have for us? Ideally from locals or people who have recently visited or are currently visiting Sicily.

We would obviously follow all the local restrictions and mask rules, we are fully vaccinated ourselves, plus both recovered from previous covid infections some time ago. However we have some concerns that our plans to tour around might mean we would be wearing our masks pretty much all day every day (when not driving) and that the restrictions will result in places we would like to visit being closed or very restricted.

So we are now considering whether to book elsewhere and head to Sicily another time. Or are we worrying too much?

Where in Italy? Advice and Opinions wanted.

We are looking at taking a trip to Italy in October. This will be our first trip as new parents without a baby and we are 100% interested in relaxing, taking our time walking pretty streets, eating delicious food, and drinking even more delicious wine. If we don't do a single museum or go to any popular tourist sites- fine by us! We are wanting to go somewhere with comfortable weather- not too warm, not too cold, but maybe cool enough for a light jacket in the evenings. We were last in Italy (Puglia) for our babymoon in March 2020 when everything went nuts there and our trip was less enjoyed, as a result.

I appreciate any and all help.

Amalfi coast--eastern or western side?

Hello, I am looking for experiences. We will be staying on the Amalfi Coast the last week in September. The plan is to stay for one week in the same location (possibly Airbnb, VBRO or similar). We want a sea view, and are foodies. Walking OK, moderate hills not verticals. Plan to visit Capri and some of the islands. The selection of towns is overwhelming. Any recommendations? Thanks.

Itinerary for 17 Nights in June

Dear All,

I'm trying to work out the itinerary for our visit to Sicily (travelling with my girlfriend) starting on the 10th of June. We arrive and also end our trip in Aeroporto di Palermo Falcone e Borsellino. I intend to rent a car through Auto Europe as suggested here in the forums. I also read it's best to avoid driving in Palermo and only hiring the car after departing the city. So as I understand we need to take the bus after flying in, and back again after 2-3 days to get the car?

Is the smallest category generally enough (C1, VW Up) for a couple or is it worth spending more (VW Polo, or upwards) for doing a road trip around Sicily?

Could you please help me to allocate the number of days appropriately? We are young, energetic, food and nature-loving people.

What I have in mind currently (open also for other suggestions):

Palermo, city and Monreale with the cathedral

Segesta with the temple, Erice medieval village

Mazzara del Vallo

Agrigento - Valley of Temples

Modica

Capo Passero

Pachino village

Siracusa

Taormina

Etna

Cefalu

Aeolian Islands

Mondello

In case this is too much for this amount of time, what questions should be raised to help with deciding what to skip/replace?

Also, is there any ticket that should be booked online in advance to avoid the crowds?

Thanks for your kind help and input!

Favignana and Marettimo ?

I am visiting Favignana for 1 day (have a round trip booked from Trapani, arriving 8h and leaving at 19h35)

I would also really like to visit Marettimo but this is the only day I have to do so. Is it crazy to do Favignana in the morning and Marettimo in the afternoon ? Should I just stick to Favignana? I don't really care about lying around on a beach or dining at restaurants.. but maybe I am underestimating how much time I have, since online I see most people stay a few days on the island.

Thank you!
