ATV Summer 2021 timetables

ATV are obviously expecting things to get back to normal, and from today are operating a 'normal' summer timetable. You can download the timetables and a handy map of the routes from he

https://www.atv.verona.it/flex/cm/pages/ServeBLOB.php/L/EN/IDPagina/999

One main change is that the 164 Garda/Verona bus will no longer travel via the airport, instead there is a new bus service 482 running hourly between the airport and Peschiera, Lazise, Bardolino and Garda.

The Venice service will only run on Tuesdays and Thursdays and the Opera bus service will also resume.

How was travel between Italy and Switzerland this summer?

Hello. We are planning our trip next summer, which will be based in Italy since our daughter already has a school trip scheduled there.

We're planning to spend about 12 days in Italy, ending in Venice. We have 5-6 more days to play with, and were debating between going to Switzerland for the first time, or going to Milan/Lake Cuomo (also for the first time).

I'm hesitating to add the Switzerland portion onto our trip, out of concerns that it might complicate our travel next summer for Covid-related reasons. I'm worried about things like a difference in entry requirements, extra testing requirements, etc. We are all four fully vaccinated, but who knows what the rules will be concerning that by June 2022?

Since nobody has a crystal ball, I was hoping someone could at least talk about how easy it was to travel between Italy and Switzerland this summer (for vaccinated Americans, if that is relevant).

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give. :)

10 Days in Veneto this September

Hi,

Looking into putting together a great itinerary for 10days this September flying in and out of Verona. We’ve been to Venice and Bologna so not too fussed about going there. We would like to go to lake Garda for a few days, the Dolomites for a few days + visit a few vineyards. Our interests are culture, scenery + food/drink.

Any suggestions are most welcome as the options appear to be endless.

Summer 2021

Hi all,

What are your thoughts of the likelihood of travelling to Sorrento from the UK this Summer? Will the next review of restrictions come up anytime soon where we will have more clarity?

ITALO TRENO Installs HEPA Filters on its Trains

As many are aware, Italo Treno is the arch rival of state-owned Trenitalia for high-speed rail service in Italy (but only Trenitalia operates non-reserved commuter trains on local and medium-distance routes). Italo Treno competes with Trenitalia on many (but not all) high-speed rail routes within Italy.

There is not much distinction in the quality of service between these two operators on routes where they compete directly. HOWEVER, there ARE at least three major differences:

1. Italo Treno often has lower fares than Trenitalia;

2. Italo Treno's rules and surcharges for reservation changes are more liberal than those of Trenitalia; and

3. Italo Treno has installed high-filtration HEPA filters on its trains, which re-circulate the air every 3 minutes, thereby decreasing the risk of virus contagion.

Trenitalia's trains are apparently NOT equipped with HEPA filters. However, Trenitalia is currently studying a PROPOSAL to augment the safety standards of at least some of its high speed trains on several routes by requiring all passengers to have a "green pass" (or its equivalent) which documents their full vaccination status, or having tested negative to Covid-19 no more than 48 hours prior to train boarding. Presumably, American travelers should present their CDC vaccination cards to establish their vaccination status.
