Summer train schedule

We will be in Italy 8/19 - 9/1. From research here, it appears that Trenitali releases schedule sometime early to mid-June - but I read the schedule doesn’t really differ much, which means I could go ahead and book.

However - I wasn’t sure how altered schedules were from the pandemic and, as tourism is added, would there be more times added to know whether this was the year to wait to book because there probably will be more changes?

Intercity Trains Schedule

I was wondering if anyone knows when the Intercity train schedule is released for the end of September, I have searched the forum, and couldn't find a definitive answer. We are travelling from Montepulciano and Naples, and it is the only train journey that I am concerned about making. There is a regionale train from Montepulciano to Rome and then to Naples, but the transfer time is only 11 minutes, and I think that would really be cutting it too close for my comfort. There are a few IC trains in August that would work, do they continue these trains into/through September? Thank you for your help!

Trains from Rome to Syracuse in July 2021

Hi guys,

I am thinking whether it is worth trying visiting Syracuse this July or leave it for next year (2022).

I would fly from Toronto, Canada to Rome and then take a train to Syracuse.

Would you be helpful with a few questions?

1) Would Sicily or Syracuse allow for vaccinated foreign tourists visits starting in July?

2) I checked train schedule from Rome Termini to Syracuse (italiarail), and there are no connections at the beginning of July (10-12), while there are available trains to book in August.

Are there any restrictions for train transportation in July vs August?

3) Would you expect that crowds are less this year, or it is business as usual?

Thanks.

Vatican sched (w/dome/scavi/happy hr) - ideas?

We were notified today that we were able to get a reservation for a scavi tour on Friday, September 3! While excited, because the time is assigned by the excavations office, it has impacted the schedule originally planned. Originally we had a large gap between basilica and museums to return to hotel and rest a bit/eat but now the schedule is tighter.

Scavi tour is at 12:30 - so we need to be to excavation office by 12. Tour lasts 1.5 hours which takes is to 2:00 pm

We have Happy Hour tour tickets for the museums at 5pm, so need to get there ~4:30pm.

Question 1 - That means we have a 2.5 hour gap. Weighing going back to hotel (campo d’ fiori) to rest/eat vs finding a restaurant around the Vatican - recommendations?

Question 2-4 - we had planned to get to Basilica before 8am to get in. Do the Dome climb first and then self tour of basilica. With the lines - anticipate this take us until 11 (depends on lines)? Leaving a small gap between that and scavi tour.

- recommendations for a restaurant to have a snack/sit in?

- more a comment/question - I assume the lines (including dome climb) would be too long to do basilica between the scavi tour and happy hour?

- we planned trotting basilica ourselves with audio guide, but give. The scavi tour, would we be better to book a tour (ie walks of Italy) to guarantee quicker access

Thanks for your thoughts on the above

Bus from Florence to Siena on Sunday

We are arriving at Florence on Sunday 9/22 and hope to take a bus to Siena that afternoon. We can't find a bus schedule and we understand that buses do not run very frequently on Sundays. Does anyone have information on bus schedules on Sunday afternoons.? Should we take a train instead of a bus and would you suggest that we reserve online our train ticket. We prefer a bus but are concerned since Sunday may be a problem with buses not running frequently.

Is Viater a good choice for day trips ?

Hi all,

I am in the beginning stages of making plans for my late May, early June trip to Rome. I have decided on two side trips from Rome, Naples and Florence. While I am sure Florence is beautiful, and I will spend time roaming, I am also using Florence as a base for a few days, to take some bus day trips., to enjoy the countryside of Tuscany, and smaller towns. The one that I really want to go on will include Cortona, and Arezzo.

is this a good tour group to research ? if not, any suggestions, and also is it ok just to wait until I get to Florence to book these, or better plan more ahead.

Thanks for any help....

Phoning Italy’s ministry of health covid line from US

Hello,

I’m trying to reach the Covid information line from the US with the number provided but it is not working. I know to use “011” to call out, but I would think there is something else wrong with the number provided. Here is what I have from the Italia tourism website:

Useful numbers from the Ministry of Health

from Italy: 1500 (free toll number)

from abroad: +39 0232008345 - +39 0283905385

I have tried both numbers with the 011, even trying it with and without the first zero, but it doesn’t go through. Is there any suggestion?

I will post on another thread my basic question about traveling to Italy, as it pertains to the possibility of traveling there after 3 weeks in Croatia and determining exactly what we need. I would like to confirm that we can do this as US citizens.

Venice in August

Hello,

My wife and I are considering a trip to Venice in August. The times as they are it has been challenging in one form or another as all know. Might be the rental car in one location or not being allowed in another for example. I am wondering are things open currently and are there challenges currently with anything within this area that I should explore before I book my flight? Flight, Car Rental, Hotels, Food, Train ,etc?

My initial thoughts would be to hang out in Venice for a few days and then possibly take a train north into Germany for a few days as I have heard that train trip through the mountains is beautiful and we have some friends we would also visit in the south of Germany.

Thanks for the assistance.

Early train from Florence or Venice

We are arriving in Venice on the 19 th, 4 nights. Then on the 23 rd transferring to Florence for 5 nights.

We would like to do the Bologna food tour which starts at 7 am. The train schedules now are little help. Is there normally an early morning high speed train from Florence? Would it be better to do the tour on the 23 rd, leaving Venice very early? If so is there somewhere to store our luggage in Bologna?

Thank you.
