Buyer beware "italy car rent"

I had a trip to Rome in mid-May 2021. I rented a car for 76 euros with this "italy car rent" company that came up on a kayak search for pick-up at Fiumicino (FCO) airport. I had a doubt but went with them anyway. When I got there, they gave me a car full of marks and scratches with their list and pictures of "pre-existing" damages, some of them barely visible, which I had to study and then I would be responsible for any other damages. When I returned the car, they found two other miniscule scratches that they claimed weren't there before and charged me another 100 euros.

This company is a total scam! Do NOT rent from them.

Visiting Carpediem outside of Rome and need advice

Hello!

I just rescheduled my cancelled trip to Oktoberfest and rebooked for December at the Carpediem Roma Golf Club outside of Rome at Via Di Marco Simone 80, Guidonia Montecelio, Roma(RM) Italy. If anyone has been there or knows the area, I would appreciate some advice on whether I would need to rent a car, use taxis, or the train for the week.

As an example, I used Google Maps for directions for the Coloseum, and the train looked reasonable but about 4 km away. I visited Rome once 25 years ago with a tour group but want to be more self-guided this trip.

I mostly plan on visiting Rome for the full duration of the week, but will book an additional night on each at a hotel that provides shuttle to FCO so the airport transportation is not a factor.

So here are some of questions for anyone that can answer:

1. What is the best transportation option?

2. Anything around the area that I should see or do?

3. Are there any grocery stores in the area to stock up my kitchen in the condo?

4. Any advice for single traveler, besides the obvious, in Rome?

5. Any cooking schools or classes that might offer a single day or several hour class?

6. Best things on a budget is always welcome!

Thank you all!

Scheduled trip to Italy Aug.2021 - Will we or Won't We?

We have planned out and booked most of a 2-week trip to Italy. We had to cancel this same itinerary in the fall of 2020.

We are set to arrive in Italy on August 29th, 2021 with a week in a villa just outside of Montepulciano then on to Sorrento and Rome for another week.

Does anyone have a sense of whether hoteliers and villa agents have cancellation mandates or guidelines now that Italy is back at Red Alert?

We want to take it all in while in Italy, and would not want to be restricted from restaurants, have to wear masks most of the time, etc.

2 weeks in Southern Italy

My husband and I are planning a two week trip to Southern Italy next July 2022. After much research we have decided to save Rome & Amalfi area for another time/season. We are going to fly return to Lamezia Airport. We will rent a car upon arrival. Thinking of using Tropea as a home base for the first week. I am having a hard time deciding on the 2nd week. Taormina looks lovely but not sure of logisitics for getting there (with a car). I'm sure Puglia would be lovely for a 2nd week as well. I would appreciate any feedback. Any suggestions for a home base in Puglia. We are interested in food, wine, the sea, people watching, relaxing and absorbing the local culture. Not much for organized tours.

Cost comparison: Dolomites vs Austrian Alps

Hello:

I am considering a trip that covers both the Austrian Alps and the Italian side. Cost-wise, I understand that Austria is in between Germany and Switzerland. What about northern Italy (the Dolomites)? In the past ten years, I have only been to Rome and the Amafi Coast, neither of which offered cheap lodging. It seems that Italy is an affordable country for locals, but not for tourists. I was in other parts of Italy before, but those trips were in the pre-Euro days. I also understand that northern Italy is more affluent than the southern part, and therefore wonder what travel costs are compared to the Austrian side.

I have not decided upon the mode of transport yet. However, should I choose to rent a car, I will do so in Austria or Germany to save $.

Italy Itinerary - Questions & Would Love Input!

After cancelling our 2020 Italy trip, I've just booked a trip for spring 2022. We fly into Venice in late April and will be in the country for 21 nights before leaving from Rome. I've booked accommodations online but everything is cancellable so I'd love to know you suggest any changes to my itinerary. And I have a few questions. Any input would be much appreciated as I've never been to Italy!

Here's what I've booked:

3 nights Venice - Wander, see Doge's palace & St. Mark's Square

3 nights in Sirmione, Lake Garda - explore Roman ruins, drive around lake, maybe boat trip to Isola del Garde

3 Nights in Florence - Museums & sights. Rent car when leaving & drive to Montepulciano via Chianti.

3 Nights in Montepulciano - Wine tasting, explore hill towns in Tuscany (& maybe hot springs?)

4 Nights in Sorrento (day trips to Capri & Amalfi Coast & maybe Pompeii, but that would be all the days and I want to just relax & wander in Sorrento too)

4 Nights in Rome - Colosseum, Vatican, and maybe day trip to Tivoli or Ninfa Gardens (though my husband won't be that excited about the latter so may skip it)

Does this look like a good number of days / nights in each place?

Also, I have a few other questions... From Venice to Sirmione - Would I be better off to simply take the train from Venice to Desenzano and rent a car there, meaning I could drop it at the end of my Sirmione stay and not pay one-way charge? Or rent a car in Venice and drive to Desenzano? And when we leave Montepulciano to go to Sorrento, am I better off dropping the car in Chiusi and taking train from there to Sorrento, or driving back to Florence & dropping it there, taking the high-speed traing?

Or should I re-order the whole trip, driving from Venice to Sirmione and then to Montepulciano, then take the car back to Florence, spend 3 nights there and then train to Sorrento?

I've noticed that a lot of accommodations are booking up already for next spring so if my itinerary isn't logical, I want to switch it around now while there's lots of options. I know there's plenty of time for booking cars & trains, but does the order make sense? Thanks in advance for any input!!

2 week couples vacation close to a beach in Italy mid Sept

Hi! My partner and I would like to plan a trip to Italy for 2 weeks in mid September - very close to a sandy beach (we will book an Airbnb).

Neither of us travelled to Italy before and we don't have a drivers license, so we would like to pick a location easily accessible from an airport (such as Palermo, Catania, Napoli, Pisa, Venice) - meaning a commute of 2h~ from the airport to the destination location would be ideal.

We are looking for an affordable, relaxing, laid back vacation away from touristy stuff, where we can enjoy authentic food, nice coffee, quaint towns and most importantly - clean, nice beaches where we could swim safely.

A place with food markets (supermarkets or open-air) close by would also be amazing! We love walking but we would also like to rent bikes to go grocery shopping or just to enjoy the area.

We are not interested in any tourist attractions, boat trips, kayaking, sightseeing any famous landmarks.

So far, we looked at the coastal areas of the province of Palermo and Catania - but it's overwhelming how many beaches are there - and if we pick without any knowledge or advice, we are afraid we might miss out on a gem of a location.

Thank you in advance for your tips! I am forever grateful for forums!

Flight at Ciampino airport at 7AM, Reliable taxi

Hey

I have a flight back home on June 26th at 7AM an Ciampino Airport.

I have Alessandro Downtown & Bar hostel booked near Termini. I need to leave at 4AM and the question is. Is mytaxi (freenow) reliable? I want to book it day before but I have heard that sometimes they cancel. Also I heard that price is 30 euros but I searched up online some taxi companies and it's alway 50 euros. How does it look like?

30 or 50 euros is a huge difference for me considering it's not my country currency and for me 50 euor is like 250.

Bascially I'm worried that taxi won't come and I won't reach the airport on time.

italy travel

My husband and I are planning to vacation in italy for our 25th wedding anniversary next year.

i am so overwhelmed with decision making and he is no help as he is very go with the flow and says yes to everything. which doesn't help me decide. lol.

we want to go to rome, pisa, florence, tuscany, amalfi coast

is it better to rent a car and travel this way or is it better to travel via train with all our luggage as we move from city to city?

or

could we be based out of one city for the entire vacation and travel to each place for the day trips?

if so, which city do you recommend to be based out of?

is renting a car a good idea?

i am planning a 14 day vacation to Italy, what is the best time of year to go?

thank you so much in advance for all of your help in planning this trip.

FLR car rental advice

We're hoping to spend close at least three weeks in Tuscany this coming fall. We'd like to spend several days in Florence and also rent a car for two weeks to see Tuscany. What car rental companies can you recommend for both reasonable price and reliability at the airport? Would it be better and more affordable to rent a car in the city rather than the airport? Thanks much for any answers.
